Michelle Annette Meyer serves as Director of the Hazard Reduction & Recovery Center and Associate Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University's College of Architecture. Her interdisciplinary work bridges sociology, urban planning, and disaster management across multiple continents.
Her research focuses on disaster recovery, social vulnerability, and environmental sustainability, examining how structural inequalities manifest in disaster contexts through the lenses of social capital and collective efficacy. Key projects include nonprofit collaboration for recovery, social media use among vulnerable populations, citizen science protocols for stormwater equity, and Haiti-based protective action research. Her work spans Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, New York, California, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Peru, India, and Turkey.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals strong emphasis on community-centered resilience, with recurring themes of nonprofit capacity building, equitable resource distribution, and interdisciplinary approaches to hazard mitigation. Her work increasingly integrates computational methods with community-engaged research, particularly in coastal resilience contexts.
