Mirchele Alejandra Silva, PsyD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and Director of the Connecticut Latino Behavioral Health System. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and research to address mental health disparities among immigrant populations. She provides clinical services at the Connecticut Mental Health Center and West Haven Mental Health Clinic, focusing on immigration-related trauma and Spanish-speaking communities.
Dr. Silva completed her PsyD at the University of Hartford (2005) and MA in Psychology (2003). She leads multidisciplinary initiatives like the Latinx Immigrant Health Alliance, emphasizing culturally responsive care and policy advocacy. Her research focuses on trauma, policy impacts on immigrant mental health, and anti-racist clinical practices.
Her 20+ peer-reviewed articles address topics such as asylum seeker trauma, DACA recipients' mental health, and telehealth adaptations during the pandemic. Key themes include decolonial research frameworks, health equity, and community resilience strategies. Awards include the Distinguished Faculty Award (2010-11, 2017-18) and recognition from the National Institute of Minority Health.
Dr. Silva supervises doctoral interns and mentors students at the Yale HAVEN Free Clinic. She advocates for systemic change through grants promoting clinician training and community partnerships. Her leadership extends to the Refugee Health Program and Yale Center for Asylum Medicine, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to address urgent health needs of vulnerable populations.
