Micheline Aharonian Marcom is a Professor of Creative Writing and Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Virginia. She is the author of eight books, including a trilogy on the Armenian genocide and its aftermath. Her works have received critical acclaim, such as the PEN/USA Award for Fiction for The Daydreaming Boy and a New York Times Notable Book designation for Three Apples Fell From Heaven.
Her research interests focus on historical narratives, migration, and immigrant experiences. She founded the New American Story Project (NASP), a digital archive documenting immigrant testimonies and related perspectives. NASP’s Welcome Children project highlights Central American refugees’ stories. Marcom has been recognized with prestigious fellowships and awards, including a 2022 Neustadt Prize nomination.
She taught in Beirut, Lebanon via a Fulbright Fellowship (2008) and advocates for interdisciplinary storytelling through NASP’s multimedia approach. Her academic contributions span creative writing pedagogy, historical fiction, and advocacy for marginalized voices in literature.
