Michele Nicoletti is a Full Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Trento’s Department of Humanities and School of International Studies. He has held academic positions since 1991, including roles at the University of Padova and visiting fellowships at institutions like the University of Notre Dame, KU Leuven, and Freiburg. His research focuses on the intersection of ethics, anthropology, and political theory, with notable contributions to studies on Carl Schmitt, Antonio Rosmini, and political theology. Nicoletti has coordinated major research projects, including EU-funded initiatives like Euro-Ethos (2007-2008) and served as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (2018). He initiated the Council of Europe Academic Network, fostering university collaboration on human rights and democracy.
His academic career includes leadership roles in national and international research, with over 50 publications spanning political philosophy, religious ethics, and constitutional theory. He has edited critical editions of works by Rosmini, Stein, and Guardini. Key research areas include biopolitics, secularization, and European integration. Nicoletti’s work bridges theoretical scholarship with practical governance, reflected in his legislative contributions to Italy’s Chamber of Deputies (2013-2018) and Council of Europe policy initiatives.
His awards include a European Award for interdisciplinary work on eugenics (2002). He currently serves as chief editor of Politica e Religione, a journal exploring theological-political dynamics. Nicoletti’s teaching spans political philosophy, European studies, and legal theory, emphasizing critical engagement with modern ethical challenges.
