Michele Nani is a Senior Researcher at the National Research Council (CNR), affiliated with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (ISMed-CNR) in Naples since 2017. He obtained his National Scientific Qualification as an Associate Professor in Contemporary History (Sector 11/A3) in 2017. He holds a Ph.D. in European Social History from Ca' Foscari University of Venice (2001) and a Laurea in History from the University of Bologna (1995).
His research focuses on migration history, labor studies, social and urban history, nationalism, and racism. Notable projects include the 'biography' of Palazzo Costabili in Ferrara, residential mobility studies in Ferrara (1881–1921), and collaborations on socio-economic structures in Emilia-Romagna. He has edited volumes on migration, racism, and social history, and contributes to journals like Storiografia and Meridiana.
Nani has coordinated seminars and research initiatives, including the SEES (2015–2018) and a Historical Atlas of Ferrara's urban society. He is a member of editorial boards for key journals and academic societies, such as the Italian Society of Labor History (Sislav) and the Italian Society of Historical Demography (Sides).
His work bridges historical analysis with interdisciplinary approaches, emphasizing migration patterns, labor dynamics, and the social dimensions of political institutions. Current projects explore intra-urban mobility and the socio-economic history of Ferrara, reflecting his commitment to integrating archival research with contemporary societal challenges.
