Michele Gelfand is a Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Professor of Psychology by courtesy at Stanford University. She is renowned for her research on cross-cultural organizational behavior, negotiation, conflict management, and cultural psychology. Her work explores the concept of tight and loose cultures and their impact on global leadership, organizational dynamics, and societal responses to threats.

Her research spans interdisciplinary approaches, integrating computational methods, neuroscience, and behavioral science to understand cultural evolution and its multilevel consequences. Recent publications highlight her work on social norm dynamics, threat-driven cultural adaptation, and the psychological underpinnings of political and terrorist ideologies.
