Michele Henney is an Emerit Senior Lecturer II in the Department of Accounting at the Lundquist College of Business, University of Oregon. She also serves as a Capstone Advisor for the Oregon Executive MBA program and is affiliated with the SAIL initiative. Her professional roles include former Academic Director of the Oregon Executive MBA and Program Manager of the Cameron Center for Finance and Securities Analysis.
Education background includes a PhD from the University of Oregon (1994), an MS from Golden Gate University (1988), a CPA certification (1984), and a BS from California State University at Chico (1982). Previous teaching positions span Western Washington University (2001–2004), University of Colorado at Denver (1994–2000), and others including community college roles.
Henney’s research expertise focuses on auditing, corporate governance, entrepreneurial accounting, financial statement analysis, and taxation. Her work emphasizes international accounting dynamics and cultural impacts on auditing practices. She has contributed case studies exploring cross-border business decisions and small-enterprise financial management.
Recipient of notable awards including the James E. Reinmuth MBA Teaching Excellence Award (2008, 2009), MAcc Outstanding Faculty Award (2007, 2009), and the Outstanding International Accounting Manuscript Award (1997). Her teaching excellence has been consistently recognized across institutions.
In advising and leadership, she has managed executive education programs and contributed to curricular development. Her professional leadership includes roles as Board Chair-Elect of the Oregon Society of CPAs (OSCPA) and Board Member of the Emerald Empire Chapter Council. She also led NextStep Recycling as Board Chair.
Henney is actively involved in the SAIL summer program, integrating sustainability accounting principles into business education. She holds one of the first Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) credentials globally and has driven initiatives to apply these concepts in high school outreach and curriculum design.
