Michele Fairbairn is a lecturer and PhD candidate in the Doctoral Program in Social Work at the University of Victoria. She teaches courses in child welfare practice, interdisciplinary practice, and anti-oppressive theory. Her academic background includes a BSW (1996) and MSW (2008) from the University of Manitoba.
Her research focuses on critical narratives of social workers' identities, feminist methodologies, and anti-oppression in practice and policy. Her current PhD research examines competency discourses in tertiary child and youth mental health settings using discourse analysis.
Michele has practiced in child welfare, medical, and mental health settings, including a recent role in an interdisciplinary child and youth mental health program. She has supervised BSW, MSW, and psychology students and contributed to community boards and grassroots social activist groups.
