Dr. Michele Back is an Associate Professor of World Languages Education at the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education. She specializes in Spanish, Quechua varieties, and Portuguese instruction, focusing on teacher development, global citizenship, and multilingual pedagogies. Her research explores intersections of race, discourse, identity construction, and translanguaging in educational contexts.
Her expertise includes designing curricula that integrate cultural excavation and intercultural awareness, particularly through study abroad programs. She has published extensively in leading journals like the Modern Language Journal and TESOL Quarterly, and co-authored key texts such as Racialization and Language: Interdisciplinary Perspectives from Perú and Racismo y lenguaje.
