Michelangelo Sabatino

Michelangelo Sabatino is a Professor and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), within the College of Architecture. His research explores intersections between culture, technology, and design in the built environment, with a focus on modern architecture's global influences, Mediterranean traditions, and transnational architectural developments in the Americas. Sabatino holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and has been a Visiting Scholar at the Newberry Library since 2016.

He has received numerous awards, including the Society of Architectural Historians Alice Davis Hitchcock Book Award (2012), the Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for Italian Studies (2011), and the AAIS Best Book Award (2011). His work spans monographs on iconic structures like the Farnsworth House and collaborative projects analyzing global modernist movements.

Sabatino’s research has been supported by grants from the Terra Foundation, Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, and the Mellon Foundation. He actively contributes to architectural discourse through editorial roles at Docomomo Journal, Journal of Architectural Education, and Architectural Histories. His community service includes leadership roles with Docomomo US and the Society of Architectural Historians.
