Dr. Michel Beaulieu is a full Professor of History and Associate Vice-Provost (Academic) at Lakehead University. He holds dual appointments as Docent of Social Science History at the University of Helsinki and Docent of Modern North American History at the University of Oulu. His academic leadership includes past roles as Chair of the Department of History and Board memberships in organizations like the Ontario Historical Society and The Champlain Society. He holds a PhD in History from Queen's University alongside certifications in museum studies and DEI strategies.
Research interests focus on Northern Ontario's economic, political, and social history, with current projects including a SSHRC-funded espionage study and a book on Thunder Bay's WWII experience. Notable publications include works on regional development, labour movements, and Finnish-Canadian communities. Awards include the Cruikshank Gold Medal and King Charles III Coronation Medal, alongside recognition as a Royal Historical Society Fellow.
