Michalis Pavlidis is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Crete. His research focuses on the physiology of marine organisms, particularly stress physiology, endocrinology, pigmentation physiology, and fish welfare.

- Collaborates with the Biology Centre CAS (Czech Academy of Sciences) and the University of Barcelona

- Stress Physiology in intensive fish culture conditions

- Pigmentation Physiology and ecological significance of skin coloration in fish
- Development of welfare assessment protocols for aquaculture species
His recent work includes a welfare assessment study for European sea bass (2025), establishing the EU Reference Centre for aquatic animal welfare (2024), and research for the European Parliament's PECH Committee on farmed fish welfare (2024). These publications span topics in Animal Welfare, Aquaculture, and Marine Biology, with specific focus on stress response mechanisms, regulatory compliance, and environmental physiology.
