Professor Michael Pavlidis is a Biologist and Professor of ‘Biology-Physiology of Marine Organisms’ at the Department of Biology, University of Crete. He serves as Vice-Rector for Research and Development (since 2020), coordinating the International Erasmus Plus postgraduate program ‘Aquaculture, Environment and Society - ACES+’ and the annual FELASA-certified summer school on laboratory animal care. His research focuses on molecular and environmental stress-response mechanisms in fish, aquaculture welfare indicators, and neuro-endocrine interactions.
- Education: PhD (1990), National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in Biology of Organisms, Populations, Environmental and Marine Biology.
Research highlights include over 85 peer-reviewed publications, editing influential books like The Welfare of Fish (Springer, 2020) and Sparidae: Biology and aquaculture of gilthead sea bream (2011). He actively leads or coordinates >30 EU/national research projects, including the ELOPY study on Mediterranean fish welfare.
He chairs the SCAR–Fish Strategic Working Group (since 2017) and oversees the pavlidis-lab.weebly.com research group.
