Michalis Georgiou

Michalis Georgiou is an Associate Professor and programme co-coordinator in the Department of Architecture at the University of Nicosia, specializing in Computational Design and Digital Fabrication. He is a registered architect with the ARB/UK and ETEK/Cyprus, and a founding member of design platforms HUB, SEAMLEXITY, and OOM LLC. His professional experience includes roles at Foster + Partners (2006–2009) as a design architect and analyst, followed by self-employment (2009–2020) and current roles as an architect/director at OOM LLC and computational designer at SEAMLEXITY (2016–present).

Georgiou holds an MSc in Adaptive Architecture and Computation from the Bartlett and an MArch from NTUA. His research focuses on integrating computational tools into design and construction processes, emphasizing sustainability and innovation. His work has garnered international acclaim, including a State Architecture Award and a Mies van der Rohe Prize nomination.

Key research interests include parametric design, material optimization, and digital fabrication workflows. Collaborative projects like X-MAX (2021) and BLOOM (2019) exemplify his exploration of sustainable, component-based systems. His academic contributions span education-focused studies on project-based learning in computational design (2024).
