معرفی
Michal Zochowski is a Professor of Physics and Biophysics at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the Department of Physics and the Biophysics Program within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). His research focuses on understanding spatiotemporal pattern formation in coupled dynamical systems, particularly in neural networks. He combines experimental techniques like optical imaging and multi-electrode array recordings with theoretical modeling to study mechanisms underlying information processing in the brain, including epilepsy, memory consolidation during sleep, and neuromodulation effects.
Education includes a Habilitation from the Polish Academy of Science (2002), a Ph.D. from the University of Warsaw (1995), and an M.S. (1993). His experimental work examines neuronal population activity in both cultured neurons and in vivo olfactory bulb systems, while theoretical studies explore synchronization, network control, and adaptive dynamics in nonlinear systems.
Key research areas include network dynamics, neuromodulation's role in synaptic plasticity, and the interplay between network structure and excitability. His lab develops functional clustering algorithms to analyze dynamic network data, with applications to hippocampal memory management and seizure prediction.
Publications span topics like acetylcholine's role in memory consolidation, heterogeneous network topology effects, and synchronization in epileptic networks. Collaborations bridge physics and neurobiology, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to unraveling complex brain functions.
