Michal Matlak

Michał Matlak is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Łódź, and holds multiple research positions including Advocacy Coordinator at CEU Democracy Institute Enlargement Hub and Senior Fellow at Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. He serves as Managing Editor of the Review of Democracy and co-founded the European Center for Constitutional Studies.

Education includes:

• Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from European University Institute
• Master of Research from European University Institute
• Master of Arts in Cultural Studies from University of Wroclaw

Research focuses on democratization processes, EU constitutional order, security policy, and Eastern enlargement. His work examines strategic autonomy, sovereignty debates, and institutional reforms for European democracy. Current projects analyze Poland's EU presidency, Ukraine accession frameworks, and security guarantees.

Awards and fellowships:

• Józef Tischner Fellowship at Institute for Human Sciences Vienna

Coordinates the Enlargement Hub research consortium and founded the European Union Security Initiative. Participated in ERC and Horizon research programs. Frequent commentator in international media on EU policy matters.
