Dr. Michail Georgiou is a Research Associate in quantitative neighbourhood analysis at the ESRC-funded Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) at the University of Glasgow. His work focuses on nature-based solutions, public health, urban neighbourhood dynamics, and housing inequalities. With a background in Economics, Environmental Sciences, and Environmental Epidemiology, he has explored the health impacts of urban blue spaces (e.g., waterways) and socio-economic disparities in urban environments.
His research employs mixed methods, including systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and longitudinal studies to investigate how urban planning interventions—particularly those involving blue/green infrastructure—modulate health outcomes and equity. Key areas include understanding how proximity to water bodies modifies mental health effects in socioeconomically deprived areas, and evaluating the role of urban regeneration projects in reducing chronic health risks.
Dr. Georgiou collaborates extensively with interdisciplinary teams, contributing to frameworks like the DISCOVER system for co-creation governance in health systems. His work bridges environmental science and public policy, emphasizing actionable insights for equitable urban development.
