Dr. Michaelina Jakala is an Assistant Professor at Coventry University's Research Centre for Peace and Security. Her work focuses on peacebuilding, transitional justice, and the experiences of marginalized groups, particularly in post-conflict societies like Bosnia and Herzegovina. She holds a PhD in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford (2011), an MA in Central and Eastern European Studies from Jagiellonian University (2004), and a BA in Justice and Peace Studies from St. Catherine University (2002).
Her research employs participatory and arts-based methods, emphasizing community engagement and ethical knowledge production. Key projects include capacity-building initiatives in Ethiopia, peace education programs, and studies on violent extremism in Kenya. She has organized international conferences, supervised PhD students, and led the MA in Peace and Conflict Studies.
Dr. Jakala’s work contributes to UN SDGs related to education and peace, with a focus on youth empowerment and reconciliation. She has collaborated on projects like the 'Enabling Ethiopian Universities Peace Education' initiative and the 'Values, Ethics, and Trust in Peacebuilding Network'. Her recent outputs include podcasts, research reports, and co-authored articles exploring child soldiers, transitional justice, and the role of arts in conflict resolution.
Her activities span academic leadership and civil society engagement, including workshops on women in peace processes and presentations on trust-building in post-war contexts. Current projects emphasize ethical methodologies, youth narratives, and localized approaches to peacebuilding.
