Tobias Greiff is a Professorial Lecturer and part-time faculty member at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University. His academic affiliations include the Center for Political Practice and Order, the Center for Narrative and Conflict Resolution, and the Department of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in conflict analysis with a focus on interethnic conflicts in the Balkans, particularly post-war dynamics in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dr. Greiff holds a Dr. rer. pol. (Ph.D.) from the University of Erfurt (Germany) and an MA from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. His research examines how political agents use cultural symbols and public spaces to legitimize violence and shape post-war power structures. He critiques how ethno-national mythologies influence peace settlement stability and international aid dependencies.
His publications analyze spatial politics, symbolic mobilization, and the challenges of transitioning from war to peace. Key works include Violent Places (2018) and contributions on Mostar peace interventions (2014). He directs f-r-e-e, a non-profit focused on peacebuilding in post-conflict regions.
