Dr. Schuller-Juckes specializes in medieval book culture, with particular expertise in illuminated manuscripts from the 13th to 15th centuries. Her research focuses on artistic production, cultural exchange, and patronage networks that shaped book illumination across Central Europe. She has made significant contributions to understanding workshops of book artists like Ulrich Schreier and regional variations in manuscript production across Austria, Germany, and neighboring regions. Her work combines detailed art historical analysis with broader cultural and historical contextualization.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent focus on Central European manuscript production from the High Middle Ages through the late Gothic period. She has particularly examined interconnectedness of artistic centers across regional boundaries, revealing how illuminators, scribes, and bookbinders operated within transregional networks. Her research has illuminated complex relationships between monastic institutions, urban centers, and noble patrons in shaping medieval book culture.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Winner of the Archduke Johann Research Prize of the State of Styria
Dr. Schuller-Juckes has maintained continuous research activity through numerous FWF-funded projects since 2003. She has co-organized significant academic events including the 2017 colloquium "European Visual and Book Culture in the 13th Century" and curated multiple exhibitions such as "Versatile. Late Gothic Book Treasures from Upper Austrian Collections" (2015-2016). Her collaborative approach is evident in extensive co-authorship with scholars across Austrian institutions and international partners.
She actively engages with the international scholarly community through membership in IUS ILLUMINATUM and participation in conferences on medieval book culture. Her work bridges traditional art historical methods with contemporary approaches to material culture studies, contributing significantly to understanding medieval book production and cultural significance across Central Europe.
