Michaela Anne Riddell

Dr. Michaela Riddell is a multidisciplinary scientist at UNSW Sydney with expertise in medical laboratory diagnostics, epidemiology, and biostatistics. She has led large-scale community-based clinical trials in type 2 diabetes (Victoria) and hypertension (India) and currently coordinates implementation processes for cervical cancer elimination programs in the Pacific and Papua New Guinea.

Her research focuses on seroepidemiologic studies, clinical diagnostics for blood-borne viruses, and capacity building in public health systems across the Indo-Pacific region. She contributes to epidemiology and infectious disease research through projects like the WANTAIM trial and the Strengthening Laboratory and Diagnostic Capacity in the Indo-Pacific (IndoPacLab) program.

Dr. Riddell operates in Madang, Papua New Guinea, and is affiliated with the Kirby Institute at UNSW. Her work bridges laboratory science with clinical and public health outcomes in low-resource settings.
