Michael Zhang

Michael Zhang serves as an Associate Professor in International Strategy within the Department of Management at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University. He has taught strategic management and international business across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs since joining NBS in 2008, designing innovative modules including Advanced Global Strategic Management for online MBAs and Networks and International Strategic Alliances for MSc students.

His academic qualifications are:

• Bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University
• MA from the University of Essex
• PhD from the University of Sheffield
• Postdoctoral Fellowship at the United Nations University

Current research focuses on stakeholder ecosystems and sustainability transitions. Previously, his work spanned international management (particularly international joint ventures), entrepreneurship (emphasizing opportunity discovery and creation processes), and economic development in transition economies, employing mixed methodologies with longitudinal perspectives on transitions.

His recognition includes:

Michael has supervised seven PhD and four DBA students to completion. His research has been funded by multiple grants including the NTU Sustainable Futures Seedcorn Fund (2018), HEIF funds for East Midlands businesses' recession study (2010-2011), and an ESRC project on SME business knowledge evolution (2003-2006). He has held editorial roles for IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management and the Journal of International Business Studies, and served as Vice-Chair of the College Research Degree Committee until 2020.
