معرفی
Michael Wiescher is the Frank M. Freimann Professor of Physics at the University of Notre Dame's Department of Physics and Astronomy, where he directs the Institute for Structure and Nuclear Astrophysics. His research investigates nuclear reactions governing energy generation and element formation in stars, including processes in novae, supernovae, and the early universe. Experimental work utilizes Notre Dame's 5U Pelletron accelerator and the deep-underground CASPAR facility.
Research interests span nuclear astrophysics, cosmic element formation, and material analysis using nuclear spectroscopy techniques. His group develops applications in forensic analysis, cultural heritage preservation, and radiation effects on materials. Recent publications focus on critical nuclear reactions, neutron star crust physics, and experimental techniques for astrophysical simulations.
Honors include the Hans Bethe Prize, Laboratory Astrophysics Award, and fellowships from AAAS, APS, and the Royal Society. He leads initiatives in nuclear data compilation and underground science facility development.
