Hendrik Schatz is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Michigan State University, where he also serves as Director of the JINA Center for the Evolution of the Elements, a NSF Physics Frontiers Center. His research is conducted at the intersection of nuclear physics and astrophysics, primarily at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB).
His research focuses on understanding nuclear processes that occur in cosmic environments through experimental studies with radioactive beams. Key areas include:

His research is embedded in the interdisciplinary framework of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics (JINA), where graduate students participate in all stages of the research process, from experimental design to astrophysical modeling.
