Dr. Michael Van Bussel is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at Brock University, holding a PhD in Sport Law and Policy Studies from Western University. He has 18+ years of academic, administrative, and coaching experience, including roles at Jacksonville University and Wilfrid Laurier University. His research focuses on sport law, governance, risk management, and athlete-coach communication. He has been recognized as OUA Provincial Coach of the Year twice for women's soccer and awarded teaching excellence.
Teaching includes courses on sport law and governance. Research interests span legal frameworks in sport, organizational risk mitigation, and policy development. His publications explore conflict resolution in non-profit sport boards, team cohesion, and leadership in recreation sectors.
