Michael Tobler

Michael Tobler is the E. Desmond Lee Professor in Zoological Studies at the Department of Biology, University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL). He specializes in evolutionary ecology, fish biology, and adaptation to extreme environments, contributing extensively to integrative biology and evolutionary research.

His research focuses on extremophile fishes in hydrogen sulfide-rich environments, examining genetic divergence, phenotypic plasticity, and transcriptional regulation. Recent work includes studies on adaptive evolution in sulfidic streams, life history variation in livebearing fish, and conservation genetics of tropical gar.
