Michael Swash

Michael Swash is an Emeritus Professor of Neurology at Barts and the London School of Medicine (Queen Mary University of London) and holds Honorary Professorships at the University of Lisbon's Institute of Neuroscience. He graduated from The London Hospital Medical College and the University of Virginia Medical School in 1962. His career includes roles as a Consultant Neurologist at The Royal London Hospital and Professorial positions spanning over four decades.

His research focuses on ALS/MND, neuromuscular diseases, dementia, epilepsy, and pelvic floor disorders, with over 675 peer-reviewed publications and 17 books. Notable contributions include re-establishing the Royal London Hospital as a neurology excellence center and advancing medical care in East London through hospital mergers.

Swash has received numerous awards, including the Liddle Triennial Prize and Meryon Lectureship. He continues research in Lisbon on neurophysiology and ALS, and in London on pelvic floor diseases, while authoring a book on the London Hospital's historical contributions to medicine.
