Michael Strong serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the Master of Healthcare Administration program at the David Eccles School of Business, University of Utah, and holds the position of Associate Professor of Medicine (Clinical) at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
His educational qualifications are:
- BS in Microbiology, Brigham Young University
- MD, Baylor College of Medicine (1993)
- Internal Medicine Residency, University of Utah (1996)
Dr. Strong's primary research and professional interests include healthcare administration, health informatics, medical information systems, hospital medicine, and electronic medical records. His work has significantly contributed to the advancement of health information technology in clinical settings through EMR implementations and data warehouse management.
He founded the University of Utah's Hospitalist program in 1999 and directed it until 2010. As the inaugural Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) from 2008 to 2018, he led the implementation of the inpatient EMR (2009) and outpatient EMR (2012). He also managed the Electronic Data Warehouse starting in 2013. After a three-year leave for volunteer work in Lima, Peru, he resumed the CMIO role in December 2021.
