Michael Stockdale is a Professor and Head of the Law Department at Northumbria University, where he has been affiliated since 1983. He leads the Centre for Evidence and Criminal Justice Studies, focusing on enhancing expert evidence quality and exploring legal professional privilege in modern contexts. His academic career includes a PhD (awarded 1991) and promotions to senior lecturer (1991), principal lecturer (2008), and professor (2017).

Research Interests: Criminal/civil evidence, expert evidence reliability (including fingerprint and DNA studies), legal professional privilege in corporate and technological contexts (e.g., robots, deferred prosecution agreements).
