Michael Slaven is a Professor of History at PennWest University, where he has taught for over three decades. He holds a PhD in Early Modern European History from West Virginia University and specializes in analyzing propaganda in politics and art. He has served as Faculty Senate President and department chair, overseeing programs in history, political science, sociology, and women’s studies.

Research interests span political propaganda, voting demographics, art criticism, and social movements. He has published three book chapters, presented at over 20 conferences, and contributed to exhibitions on voter suppression. His current research examines 20th-century political demonstrations in global capitals like Rome, London, and Paris.
He has been honored as a Phi Beta Kappa member and has authored critical reviews for art exhibitions. His non-academic passions include birding (as chief reviewer for Cornell’s eBird project), fly-fishing, and DJing under the stage name Sonik Professor.
