Jonathan Gienapp is Associate Professor of History and Law at Stanford University, holding the Nehal and Jenny Fan Raj Civics Faculty Fellowship. He specializes in constitutional, political, legal, and intellectual history of the early United States, with particular focus on Constitutional origins and development.

His research examines how Founding-era Americans understood constitutionalism, with significant contributions to debates about constitutional interpretation theory. Gienapp's work critically engages with modern debates over constitutional originalism through historical analysis of founding-era constitutionalism.
Recognition includes the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching, Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Prize, and Excellence in Teaching Award from the Phi Beta Kappa Northern California Association. He serves as senior editorial advisor for the Journal of American Constitutional History and contributes to Stanford's Civics Initiative.
