Michael Seek

Michael Seek is an Associate Professor in the Engineering Technology department at Old Dominion University, affiliated with the Batten College of Engineering and Technology. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

His research focuses on finite element modeling and laboratory testing of cold-formed steel structures, including seismic analysis, steel connection design, and sustainable solutions for energy efficiency. He also investigates passive and active solar systems and blast performance of structures.

Publications highlight his work on optimizing Z-purlin roof systems, seismic retrofitting, and sustainable design. His grants include projects like the IUSE/PFE:Red – Revolutionizing the Engineering Technology Department ($154,773) and research on green infrastructure planning and solar tracking systems.
