معرفی
Professor Michael Schmid is a research group leader and Head of the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine at the University of Liverpool, UK. His work focuses on pancreatic cancer metastasis, particularly the role of myeloid immune cells, macrophages, and the tumor microenvironment in promoting disease progression.
- PhD, University of Basel (2005)
- Master in Biology, University of Bern (2000)
His research explores how host immune cells interact with cancer cells and fibroblasts to create a metastatic niche in the liver. Key areas include:
- Tumor Microenvironment
- Pancreatic Cancer Biology
- Metastasis Mechanisms
- Macrophage Signaling
- Tumor Immunity
Recent publications analyze efferocytosis, JAK/STAT crosstalk, and VISTA's role in immune suppression. Techniques include animal modeling, bioinformatics, and clinical sample validation.
Grants include funding from:
- Medical Research Council
- North West Cancer Research
- Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund
- Royal Society
- Cancer Research UK
He has developed therapeutic strategies targeting Gas6/AXL signaling and PI3Kγ pathways. His lab collaborates on platform trials like PINCER for translational research.
