Michael Rudner

Professor Michael Rudner is a faculty member at the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, Department of Environmental Engineering, where he has served as Professor of Geobotany since 2013. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Freiburg (1998-2013) and the University of Oldenburg (2001-2004). His education includes a diploma in geoecology (University of Bayreuth, 1992), Maîtrise de Biologie (Université de Montpellier, 1989), and PhD in geobotany (University of Freiburg, 2004).

• Research Focus: Geobotany, landscape ecology, plant functional traits in serpentine ecosystems, GIS applications, statistical analysis of ecological patterns, biodiversity in cultural landscapes
• Projects: WISAVI (biodiversity promotion in agriculture), spatial pattern analysis in Mediterranean shrublands, industrial biodiversity monitoring frameworks
• Teaching: Geobotany, GIS in environmental planning, quantitative ecological methods, renewable energy ecology

His recent publications analyze plant drought strategies in nutrient-poor soils, remote sensing for ecological connectivity, and statistical frameworks for vegetation analysis. He has supervised 26+ students in environmental engineering and agriculture, with special attention to agroecology-ecology interactions. As former Dean (2015-2019) and current committee member in air pollution control, he emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches and applied conservation strategies.
