Dr. Michael Rota is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of St. Thomas' College of Liberal Arts. His research specializes in philosophical theology, metaphysics, and ethics, particularly examining intersections of faith and reason. Current projects include co-authoring a book on slavery and religion with sociologist Kevin Bales, and leading a Templeton Foundation-funded project on the psychology of faith.
Research focuses on:
- Philosophical arguments for Christian faith (e.g., Pascal's Wager)
- Metaphysics of theism and divine attributes
- Free will and divine foreknowledge
- Moral psychology and social ethics
Authored 'Taking Pascal's Wager: Faith, Evidence, and the Abundant Life' (2016), presenting arguments for Christian commitment. Co-organized the St. Thomas Summer Seminars in Philosophy of Religion (2010-2016).
Teaches 'The Person and the Good' and other philosophy courses exploring ethical foundations, human personhood, and rationality of belief.
