Prof. Dr. Michael Rose is a Professor at the University of Hamburg's Faculty of Medicine, leading a working group within the Institute of Systems Neuroscience at the Center for Experimental Medicine. His research focuses on neural mechanisms underlying memory formation, pain perception, multisensory integration, and the role of oscillatory activity in cognitive processes. Key areas include how pre-stimulus brain states influence encoding, the impact of expectations on pain modulation, and crossmodal associative learning.
Recent work explores functional dissociations in posterior parietal regions during memory formation, the effects of agency on pain inference through Bayesian models, and the predictive coding mechanisms in affective visual processing. His studies utilize EEG/ERP techniques to analyze oscillatory rhythms (theta, alpha, gamma) and their roles in sensory, emotional, and cognitive tasks.
Publications span topics from pain-specific hippocampal modulation to the neural basis of visual dominance in object processing. His interdisciplinary approach integrates insights from neurophysiology, cognitive psychology, and computational modeling to advance understanding of human perception and learning.
