Massachusetts Institute of Technologyمعرفی
Michael Rakowitz is a Professor of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University, known for his politically charged artistic interventions that examine cultural heritage, diaspora, and social justice. His practice bridges sculpture, public art, and collaborative projects that address historical loss and political accountability.
Rakowitz's research explores themes of cultural erasure through works like The Invisible Enemy Should Not Exist (2007–present), which reconstructs 7,000+ Iraqi artifacts looted during the 2003 invasion and destroyed by ISIS. His paraSITE project (1998–present) creates inflatable shelters for homeless individuals using building HVAC systems, while Enemy Kitchen (2003–2014) used Iraqi cuisine to foster dialogue between veterans and civilians.
