Michael Rachow

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Rachow is a Professor at Wismar University of Applied Sciences, part of the Faculty of Engineering within the Department of Maritime Studies, Systems Engineering and Logistics. He specializes in integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications, focusing on marine machinery systems, energy technology, and heating/refrigeration systems. His teaching modules include Schiffsmaschinenanlagen, Dampf- und Kälte-technik, and Energieanlagen.

Rachow is actively involved in professional organizations, serving on the board of the Association of Marine Engineers, the administrative committee of the German Marine Engineers’ Union, and the Warnemünde Maritime Institute. He also represents maritime professionals in accident prevention and safety committees.

His vision emphasizes leveraging the university’s modern facilities, including the Maritime Simulation Center and specialized laboratories with original equipment, to enhance education and research. He aims to focus more on research in his field after leading the Warnemünde Maritime Department.

Outside academia, he enjoys windsurfing, skiing, and gardening with his wife.
