Michael R. Bleavins

Michael R. Bleavins is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Wayne State University. He holds a PhD in Environmental Toxicology and Animal Science from Michigan State University, with postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and General Motors Biomedical Sciences Research Laboratories. A Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology, Dr. Bleavins specializes in immunotoxicology, biomarkers, and translational medicine.

His research focuses on biomarker development to enhance disease characterization and therapy, genetic testing in clinical trials, chronic renal disease genetics, immunotoxicity assessment, and 3D cell culture for bone marrow and tumor modeling. His work spans pharmacogenetics, genomics, metabonomics, proteomics, and biochemistry, with over 67 publications.

Dr. Bleavins co-edited Biomarkers in Drug Development: A Handbook of Practice, Application, and Strategy and lectures globally on regulatory approaches and pharmaceutical trends. He was Executive Director at Pfizer’s World Wide Safety Sciences before retiring in 2006 and currently leads MITRI, a pharmaceutical expediting organization.
