Michael Pycraft Hughes

Michael Pycraft Hughes is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology at Khalifa University's College of Engineering since 2021. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Surrey (23 years), University of Glasgow, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. His work focuses on cellular bioelectronics and dielectrophoresis technology.

His research explores two major themes: Dielectrophoresis (DEP) technology for cellular characterization and separation, leading to two startup companies (DEPtech and Deparator), and cellular electrical properties analysis to understand their role in cell function and disease mechanisms.

Professor Hughes has authored 2 books, ~100 journal papers, 5 patents, and ~90 conference papers (6,700+ citations, h-index 41). He served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Nanobioscience (2008-13) and held leadership roles in multiple IEEE and scientific societies.
