Prof. Dr. Michael Pietsch is the Chair of Old Testament Studies at Augustana University Neuendettelsau. He holds a professorship since October 2014 and has served as Rector (2016–2018) and Vice Rector (2015–2016). His expertise spans Old Testament exegesis, Hebrew language, and religious history of ancient Israel. He completed his doctorate in theology (summa cum laude) at the University of Hamburg in 2002 and habilitation in 2011, granting him the venia legendi for Old Testament studies.
Teaching focuses on Hebrew instruction, biblical hermeneutics, and advanced seminars on Old Testament literature and theology. He oversees a structured curriculum including language courses, exegetical seminars, and integration workshops for exam preparation. His administrative roles include leading theological training programs and fostering interdisciplinary approaches to biblical studies.
Research interests include historical-critical analysis of Old Testament texts, intercultural theology, and the integration of ancient Near Eastern contexts. He collaborates with institutions like the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and has held acting professorships at universities in Munich, Hamburg, and Bremen.
