Michael Parker

Michael Parker, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at Nova Southeastern University's Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine. He also serves as Professor of Biomedical Sciences in both the NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel Colleges of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD) and NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM).

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of San Diego
• Doctoral degree in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine under Dr. Charles Luetje
• Postdoctoral fellowships at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) under Dr. Stanley Froehner and Duke University under Dr. Guoping Feng

Research Interests:

Dr. Parker’s research focuses on receptor-ligand interactions, the stability and function of cholinergic synapses, and renal physiology/pharmacology. His work bridges molecular pharmacology with clinical applications.

Teaching and Leadership:

He has taught pharmacology to medical, dental, optometry, and physician assistant students since joining NSU in 2004. Appointed Chair of the Department of Pharmacology in 2008, Dr. Parker contributes to multiple university committees and held leadership roles in the NSU MD Faculty Council as Vice President (2017) and President (2019).

Personal Background:

A Miami native, Dr. Parker grew up racing sailboats in Biscayne Bay and following South Florida sports teams. He continues sailing, tropical gardening, and supports the University of Miami (the "U").
