Dr. habil. Michael Ostheimer is a Researcher at the Professorship for Modern German and Comparative Literature at Chemnitz University of Technology. He has been a Research Associate in the DFG project 'Stefan Heym: Ahasver' since March 2021, focusing on digital literary editions. His career includes freelance literary scholarship (2016-2021) and prior roles at TU Chemnitz (2005-2013) and Peking University (2002-2005).
- Education: Studied German, Greek Philology, and Economics in Tübingen and Berlin; earned a doctorate from Freie Universität Berlin (2001) and habilitation from TU Chemnitz (2012).
His research intersects Literary Theory, GDR Literature, Time-Space Relationships, and Reception of Antiquity. He explores how literature models historical latency and utopian chronotopes, particularly in East German contexts. His recent work analyzes post-DDR trauma, spatial narratives, and East-West literary exchanges.
Publications include monographs on Heiner Müller's tragic poetics and DDR chronotopography, alongside essays on Lu Xun, Alfred Döblin, and contemporary German-Chinese literary dialogues. He co-edited volumes on islands as heterochronic spaces and narrative time modeling in 21st-century literature.
