Michael Nitsche is Professor at the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, Georgia Institute of Technology. He founded and directs the Digital World & Image Group (DWIG), exploring intersections between digital/physical spaces through game design, VR, and digital performance. He holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Cambridge.
Research examines hybrid spaces, tangible interfaces, digital craft, and performance in mediated environments. Collaborations include National Film and Television School London, Sony, and Turner Broadcasting. Recent work explores material interactions in XR environments, embodied cognition in virtual spaces, and critical approaches to digital making.
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on mixed reality perception, tangible interaction, material studies, and speculative design. Articles frequently integrate practice-based research with theoretical analysis of digital materiality.
