Michael Nichols is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Purdue University and a Cornerstone Affiliated Faculty member. He earned his Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Northwestern University in 2010 and previously taught at Saint Joseph’s College, where he received the 2017 Teaching Excellence Award for his work in Religious Studies, Philosophy, and Core Curriculum.
Research Focus
Nichols specializes in comparative religious mythology and its modern interpretations. His work examines:
- The interplay between Buddhist and Hindu mythic narratives
- Reinterpretations of religious symbols in contemporary popular culture
- Cultural adaptations of ancient mythic figures and stories
