Michael Morgan is a Professor of Biology and Affiliate Professor of Biochemistry at Berry College. He holds a B.S. from Pacific Union College, an M.A. from Loma Linda University, and a Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on molecular stress responses in marine organisms, particularly corals and cnidarians, addressing anthropogenic and natural stressors through ecotoxicological and biomarker approaches.
Dr. Morgan’s teaching interests include General Biology, Aquatic Biology, Molecular Biology, and Developmental Biology. His research interests span detecting stress responses in corals exposed to pollutants like oxybenzone, studying physiological adaptations in marine invertebrates, and developing molecular tools to characterize coral diseases and endocrine disruptors.
His publications emphasize coral health under environmental pressures, revealing mechanisms of chemical interactions (e.g., oxybenzone and ocean acidification) and transcriptional profiling in cnidarians. Over two decades of work demonstrate expertise in gene expression profiling, ecotoxicology, and biomarker development for environmental monitoring.
