Michael Mintrom is a Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Monash Master of Public Policy at Monash University. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Stony Brook University, alongside MA (Honours) in Economics and BA in English Literature from the University of Canterbury. His expertise centers on policy entrepreneurship, sustainability transitions, and the design of policies for emerging technologies like robots in public spaces. He is a former elected President of the Public Policy section of the American Political Science Association and currently serves on editorial boards of top journals including the Australian Journal of Political Science.
His research interests span policy analysis, evidence-based governance, and innovation in public administration. Notable projects include advancing policy design for robots, studying change agents in water sustainability, and evaluating housing policy frameworks. Mintrom has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Miriam K. Mills Award and Theodore J. Lowi Prize, alongside 2024 Good Design Awards for the 'Tomorrow Party' initiative, which explores participatory policy futures.
Mintrom’s work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education, urban development, and climate action. He has held roles at ANZSOG, Michigan State University, and the University of Auckland, alongside visiting positions at Stanford and USC. His 100+ publications include influential books like Policy Entrepreneurs and Dynamic Change and Public Policy: Investing for a Better World.
