Dr. Michael McLeod is a Professor of Biology & Biochemistry at Belmont Abbey College. He holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from Miami University (1977), M.S. in Biology from East Tennessee State University (1973), and B.S. in Biology from Lincoln Memorial University (1969). He is a Fellow of the American Council on Education and has been recognized with awards including the Adrian Faculty Excellence Award and the Spirit of St. Benedict Award.
His research focuses on evolutionary and biochemical genetics, physiology, and environmental adaptation. He has conducted extensive studies on Capsicum species, molluscs like Corbicula fluminea, and Magnolia macrophylla. Over 35 years of academic work includes 12 key presentations from 1976–2002, emphasizing genetic diversity, population dynamics, and taxonomic classification.
Teaching specialties include Cell Biology, Human Physiology, and Environmental Science. He co-developed teacher training programs for junior high school educators.
