معرفی
Michael E. McHenry is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University with expertise in soft magnetic nanocomposites for power applications, field processing of materials, and structural/magnetic property characterization. His research has been supported by major grants including a Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) and ARPA-E program. He has over 350 publications with 11,000+ citations.
Research focuses on:
- Metal amorphous nanocomposites (MANCs) for power electronics
- High-temperature magnetic materials for aerospace
- Rare earth material alternatives
- Nanocomposite processing and characterization
- High-efficiency electric motors
Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on axial flux motors, FeNi-based nanocomposites, and rare earth-free magnetic materials. Earlier work established foundations in ferrite magnetism and thermal processing techniques.
Significant honors include IEEE Distinguished Lecturer (2013), TMS Research Excellence Award (2014), and a namesake symposium (2016). He co-authored the textbook 'Structure of Materials' and holds five patents.
Research leadership includes directing the AMPED Consortium and co-founding CorePower Magnetics to commercialize soft magnetic technologies.
