Michael Louis Burns

Michael Louis Burns, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Medical School. He also holds leadership roles including Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer for Artificial Intelligence, Chair of the Clinical Intelligence Committee, and Director of Informatics and Data Analytics at the University of Michigan. His work focuses on healthcare data infrastructure and artificial intelligence applications.

His expertise includes governance of healthcare AI systems, software design for clinical applications, and perioperative outcomes analysis through his involvement in the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG). He combines machine learning, natural language processing, and informatics to advance precision health initiatives.

Dr. Burns has received training through a NIH T32 research fellowship sponsored by the University of Michigan Department of Anesthesiology.
